The Met Gala, otherwise known as the first Monday of May, is the second fashionable night of the year aside from the Red Carpet event. You can think of it as the Super Bowl of fashion. The Met Gala is the place where designers and the celebrities showcase their over-the-top looks. This year was my favorite year yet. Keep scrolling and you will find out why:)
The Met Gala 2018
Every year the Met Gala takes place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It all started in the year of 1946 and over the years it has developed in a grand affair and the party of the year.
Not everyone is invited to this special event. Most of the guest on the list are from the music, film, Broadway and fashion industry exclusives. Every year the theme changes - allowing the designers to really think outside the box.
This years theme was the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" and the hosts were Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney. This was, by far, the most luxurious and expensive Met Gala I've witnessed.
Cost Of The Gala
Who doesn't want to attend the year's hottest party full of celebrities and fashion icons?! Although we all wouldn't mind sipping on Veuve Clicquot champage and chatting it up with celebrities, the cost to attend the Gala is mind blowing.
Tickets this year went for $30,000 a piece and that doesn't include the table that will cost you about $275,000. However, all this money goes to the Costume Institute that the Met Gala supports. Last year they raised over $12 million dollars, so when they say it's the most prestigious party of the year, now you know why.
But hey, dropping that much cash just to hangout with some celebrities isn't that bad right?!
So now that you got your ticket - the first step is out of the way - but this is where the rest of the expenses come in. What are you wearing to the event? You can't go to a mall and grab a prom dress at Neiman Marcus?! You'll need a top of the line outfit to play into the year's theme. Depending on a designer you choose will determine your outfit cost but I'm pretty sure all their top of the line styles are in the thousands if not in the hundredths.
The Met Gala requires more than just the Sunday best grooming. So the expenses are going to pile up with the outfit, hairstylist, make- up artist, aestheticion and who ever I left out.
The last expense of the night is going to be the ride. How are you going to get there and back - and no you can't use the yellow cab and the Uber isn't going to work. Say hello to the car service that will charge you hourly on top of a base rate.
At the end, excluding the ticket, you are looking at spending $60,000 -$100,000 for personal glamor time just so you can sit next to Brett Pitt. Even after managing to purchase the ticket and the unnecessary glam expenses, you still aren't guaranteed the entry. Why? Because Anna Wintour says so and not everyone is prominent enough to attend the party.
