Retinol for skin: How to achieve the maximum results!

When we are in our twenties we don't realize that taking care your skin from the beginning is the key of aging gracefully. I personally consider retinol a miracle cream but a lot of us don't understand exactly what it does and how it really works.

Retinol is designed to neutralize free radicals, stimulate collagen production and smooth the fine lines and wrinkles.

Yes! The most anti-aging products in drugs stores have Retinol as their main ingredient but they all come in very low doses (.01%). That is not enough to see any results on your skin. You have to go big or go home. I suggest going to your local med-spa and seeing what they have to offer but if you want to start right away I have some products I love to share with you.

How To Apply It

As I mentioned previously, retinol is a miracle cream but if applied too much or too often can cause more skin damage then better it. Start out with the slow dose (.5%). Let you skin get used to the product. If it's your first time using retinol, I suggest starting out 2x a week. Later, increase it 3x a week if you think your skin is ready.

Always remember:

  1. Wash your face really well.
  2. Wait until your SKIN IS COMPLETELY DRY!!!
  3. Take a pea size amounts and apply upward and outward motions.
    • In the mornings you can use your skin moisturizer.

Don't get frustrated when your don't see the results right away. It takes several weeks for your skin to start adjusting to retinol. You can also add Vitamin C to your routine. You can use retinol at night and Vitamin C during the day. Oh and remember to always wear your sunscreen - even on the cloudy days. Happy shopping!
