Macy's was founded by Rowland Hussey Macy, between the years of 1843 - 1855. He opened four retail stores including the original store in Haverhill, Massachusetts. They all failed and in 1958 it opened a new store in New York City. The Macy's logo included a star which came from the tattoo that Rowland Hussey Macy got when he was a teenager working on Nantucket whaling ship.
As the business progressed they opened more stores and used Santa Clause themed exhibits and other widow displays to draw in more customers. They have continued the tradition since Macy's throws the biggest Christmas parade know in the world. I hope you enjoyed the quick history of Macy's and let's get shopping!
