DIY Face Mask Recipe – Covid-19 Skincare Routine!

Growing up I never had issues with pimples but doesn't mean that I haven't had my share of dealing with the little devils. I feel like they just know when to make a big entrance - at the wrong time, at the wrong place. The good thing about DIY homemade masks is that you can still pamper yourself and feel relaxed and rejuvenated. In a perfect world, I wish I could chill under the Light Salon's Boost LED Mask like miss Chrissy Teigen, but the universe has other plans.

One thing that kept my face pimple free during my teenage years was my mom's secret face mask. It worked wonders then and it works wonders now. This 3 step process that changed my life will change yours too. Trust me, I know nothing beats a day at the spa but delving into the kitchen and finding goodies to make a budget-friendly hack feels just like the day at the spa. Here's my secret to at-home-glow that money can't buy you, girl!

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, mask wearing is mandatory. I have to wear a mask 8-10 hours a day for work. I've noticed a big change in my skin texture and overall look. I've noticed how clogged, dehydrated and full of pimples my skin was. I started using my mom's mask recipe again and I saw the results in a day. I wanted to share it with everyone that's experiencing the same skin problems - worry no more!

OATMEAL & EGGS

Got your Rosé?! Netflix on?! Cool, same - tonight's the night we're making my famouse DIY oatmeal & eggs facial mask. There are two shining star ingredients in this diy mask and when you mix the two together, they work wonders for your face. Oatmeal is antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that helps calm dry skin and also removes dead skin cells. Egg whites help shrink pores by tightening the skin. It also prevents pimples and reduces the acne on your face.

One issue I've noticed about other diy face masks are the ingredients you need to make them. I don't have an organic cane sugar or a tea tree oil laying around in my house so making them become impossible. Most households have oatmeal and eggs.

The Ingredients:

  1. One egg white;
  2. 1/2 cup of oatmeal.

1. Add an egg white in a jar or container.

2. Take a 1/2 cup of oatmeal and put it in the mixer until it becomes a powder.

3. Mix the egg white and oatmeal powder together. Use the spoon to mix it. Below is the video of what the solution should look like.

Place the jar in the fridge for 2 minutes and you’re ready to use it. Apply it and leave it for 10-15 minutes until the mask becomes dry! Yes, the egg and the oatmeal start to dry up after 5 minutes making you look like a monster - at least my dog thinks so, he runs away from me 🙂

Use the warm water, it washes off faster. You can use the mask the next day if you have enough. Just place it back into the fridge until the next day.  Use the mask 2-3x a week.

What to expect!

Once you put the mask on for 10-15 minutes, you will feel either:

  • Pulling sensation - and/or stretching sensation. That's the egg workings its magic. It's kind of a refreshing feeling to be honest.
  • Itching - I personally start itching around my nose area, so don't be alarmed if you start feeling itchy around your face.

Once you wash your mask off, your skin is extremely soft - as a 'baby's bottom" soft. If I could compare the skin texture to the ones of demaplanning, it's pretty damn close. I finish it off with my La Mer moisturizer and call it a night.
